The two Thanksgiving games offer plenty of entertainment not only on the field. At the Dallas Cowboys’ home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the US anthem will be blared by trumpet, a country star will take over the halftime show. And the New Orleans Saints have chosen a local great for their game against the Buffalo Bills.
Munich – Thanksgiving, turkey, football – and a whole lot of hoopla surrounding the games. Because the games on Thanksgiving Day are of course celebrated in a manner befitting a US holiday, with a musician singing the US anthem. And in many cases, with a halftime show as well.
At the Dallas Cowboys game against the Las Vegas Raiders, “The Star-Spangled Banner” is performed by Freddie Jones on trumpet, as usual. Jones has been doing this for the Cowboys at every home game for the past seven years and has yet to miss a game.
Country star rocks the halftime show
Taking over the halftime show is country star Luke Combs, who is friends with Cowboys superstar Ezekiel Elliott. “Being a huge football fan, the Dallas Cowboys were always on our TV on Thanksgiving Day when I was growing up. So it’s a great honour to be part of their 25th Thanksgiving halftime show and support the Salvation Army’s ‘Red Kettle Campaign,'” Combs said.
This campaign raises money for food, shelter, clothing and toys to help families in need.
The New Orleans Saints have chosen a local great for their game against the Buffalo Bills: Tarriona “Tank” Ball, the lead singer of the band “Tank and the Bangas”, will sing the anthem.
The band has been around since 2011 and their music is influenced by diverse genres such as rock, jazz and hip-hop. In 2020, they were nominated for a Grammy for “Best New Artist” at the Grammy Awards.
The third Thanksgiving game also features celebrity guests. Before the Detroit Lions’ home game against the Chicago Bears, R&B superstar Ne-Yo sings the anthem. During halftime, rapper Big Sean will provide the entertainment.
