Laremy Tunsil is once again shifting the financial scales at his position. The offensive tackle gets a record contract from the Houston Texans
Next big payday for Laremy Tunsil: As Ian Rapoport of the “NFL Network” reports, the Houston Texans left tackle will receive a three-year contract that moves into new dimensions at his position.
The new deal is said to be worth a total of $75 million, $50 million of which is fully guaranteed. Another ten million is guaranteed if he is still playing for the Texans at the end of his contract. This makes him by far the highest-paid player at his position.
What’s special about Tunsil is that the 28-year-old hasn’t had an agent since 2020 and completely represents himself in negotiations. He therefore does not have to pay any consultant fees, the money flows entirely into his account. On Twitter, Tunsil posted a short video sequence with which he expressed his joy about the new contract in a funny way.

Disastrous video made Tunsil slip in the draft
For Tunsil, it’s the culmination – financially, at least – of an NFL career that couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. He was considered a surefire number-one pick in the 2016 draft, and his performances in college for Ole Miss and at the Combine were stellar.
Ten minutes before the draft began, however, a video surfaced on Tunsil’s Twitter account showing him pulling on a bong and wearing a gas mask. Although his advisor at the time, Jimmy Sexton, directly explained that the account had been hacked, the damage had been done.
Numerous teams took Tunsil off their draft board entirely, and the top prospect slipped. It wasn’t until position 13 that the Miami Dolphins struck and selected Tunsil. He initially played one year at left guard for the Dolphins before moving to left tackle for the 2017 season.
In August 2019, right before the start of the new NFL season, the Dolphins sent Tunsil to the Texans in a monster trade. The deal also included receiver Kenny Stills and a fourth-round pick on the Dolphins’ side, while the Texans gave up two first-round picks, a second-round pick, cornerback Johnson Bademosi and offensive tackle Julian Davenport for the package.
Tunsil was selected to the Pro Bowl immediately after his first season at Texas and signed his first major contract in April 2020. The contract at that time also included a term of three years with a total value of 66 million dollars, a record value even then.
