A controversial decision against the Minnesota Vikings in the game against the Los Angeles Rams (20:30) could now lead to a rule change. It will be discussed in the offseason.
With a safety late in the fourth quarter, pass rusher Byron Young sealed the 30-20 victory for the Los Angeles Rams against the Minnesota Vikings.
The problem: Young pulled the facemask of Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold.
The referees overlooked this foul play. Instead of a new first down for the Vikings and a 15-yard penalty against the Rams, Los Angeles celebrated the sack in the end zone.
A play that could have long-term consequences: As “Pro Football Talk” reports, the “Competition Committee” is likely to discuss in the offseason whether face mask penalties may be reviewed by video referees.
“Pro Football Talk” is referring to a conversation with the NFL’s head of communications, Brian McCarthy.
“Every year, there is a discussion about which plays should be reviewed by the video referee and which should not. Teams could propose a rule change here. Regarding face mask penalties, I think that’s likely to be an issue,” McCarthy is quoted as saying.
