In the NFL, the draft is soon around the corner, yet more than a fifth of the best free agents still do not have a new contract. Among them are many big-name players.
Munich – When the NFL draft is not too far away in mid-April, you would think that free agency is mostly over. But that is by no means the case. Currently, more than a fifth of the top 100 free agents do not yet have a new contract.
At this point in the season, most of the best players have not yet signed if they have not received the offers they were hoping for at the beginning of free agency. Many are weighing whether to sign a contract with worse terms, sign only a one-year deal to prove themselves, or wait to see if a team still gets a need at their position.
One of the top free agents who doesn’t currently have a new team is cornerback Stephon Gilmore. A report that the Raiders were reportedly interested in him has yet to develop.
OBJ and Landry still waiting
Tyrann Mathieu also does not have a new employer yet. Just a few days ago, the safety admitted he was heartbroken when the Chiefs wouldn’t re-sign him
In addition to the duo, countless other big-name players are waiting for a new contract. Among them defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry and Cole Beasley, offensive tackle Duane Brown, running back Melvin Gordon, edge rusher Melvin Ingram and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
