After the death of NFL legend John Madden, a minute of silence will be held in the stadiums before all games on the 17th NFL Matchday.
Munich – On Tuesday, NFL icon John Madden passed away at the age of 85.
Now this weekend, the NFL is dedicating a moment of silence to the longtime coach and commentator before the games of the 17th game day. The moment of silence is to be held before the US anthem is played at NFL stadiums.
“The NFL lost a true giant on Tuesday with the passing of John Madden,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced in a memo to all clubs on Thursday. “To honour his legacy, we are asking each home team in Week 17 to observe a moment of silence in his memory before the start of the game. “

Madden’s former franchise, now the Las Vegas Raiders, will also wear Madden’s initials “JM” on their helmet in their game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Hall of Famer John Madden was head coach of the Oakland Raiders for ten years, leading the team to a Super Bowl title in the 1976 season. After his coaching career ended, he switched to the microphone in 1979 and commentated NFL games until 2009. Madden is also the namesake and longtime face of the Madden NFL Football video game series.
