NFL legend Barry Sanders reveals heart attack: “Thought it was something like heartburn

NFL legend Barry Sanders reveals in an interview that he suffered a heart attack last year.

During his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, Barry Sanders thrilled countless people with his powerful performances on the field. Now the former running back hopes to inspire others once again, albeit in a different way.

In June last year, Sanders publicly announced that he had experienced a “scare” with his health. At the time, there was talk of a heart examination. In an interview with CBS, the 56-year-old has now clarified this statement.

According to this, Sanders suffered a heart attack while attending a recruitment visit for his son.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it,” Sanders said in an interview that will be broadcast on “The Making of a Heart Attack” this weekend. “I thought it was something like heartburn, but it just kept going.”

Sanders didn’t think it was a heart attack

Sanders woke up that day with a burning sensation in his chest and drove himself to the emergency room in the afternoon after cutting short his visit with his son.

Incidentally, the NFL legend did not think he was having a heart attack. “I don’t know why it never crossed my mind,” the former athlete explained.

He added: “I’ve learned through this process that there aren’t necessarily any warning signs.”

Incidentally, Sanders is doing much better now, about a year later. Medication, a change in diet, and additional walks have made him “definitely healthier and happier.”
