NFL: Kamala Harris receives support from 15 Hall of Famers including Emmitt Smith

A crucial presidential election is taking place in the USA on November 5. A group of NFL Hall of Famers have pledged their support to the Democratic duo Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Led by Dallas Cowboys legend and all-time rushing leader Emmitt Smith, 15 Hall of Fame NFL players have announced their support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.

The 15 members based their decision on Vice President Kamala Harris’s “vision of democracy, freedom, American leadership in the world, and equal education and opportunities for all Americans”.

A week ago, on National Black Voter Day, 50 former NFL athletes, many of them Super Bowl champions, pledged their support to Harris. All of the ex-players came from so-called “Historical Black Colleges and Universities”, which were founded to educate African Americans.

The letter was signed by Art Shell, the first black coach in the NFL, among others. Other supporters include Leslie Frasier, former coach of the Minnesota Vikings, James “Shack” Harris, the NFL’s first black full-time quarterback, Greg Coleman, the NFL’s first black punter, and former Super Bowl MVP and Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Richard Dent.

NFL: These stars support Donald Trump

But like the country as a whole, the NFL and its (ex-)stars are politically divided. Among the supporters of Republican Donald Trump are All-Pro Wide Receiver Antonio Brown and Pass Rusher Lawrence Taylor.

Even legendary Packers quarterback Brett Favre openly admitted that he would vote for Donald Trump: “I think Donald was an apolitical president, and I liked that about him,” said the 54-year-old. “I think if you were an American citizen, he took care of you first and foremost. I don’t know if our current president has the same mentality.”

Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also positions herself politically rather to the right and is said to favor Donald Trump. She recently caused a storm of controversy with the so-called “Swifities”.
