NFL Honors: Saviour of Damar Hamlin – Bills coach gets MVP vote.

Patrick Mahomes has won his second MVP title. In the voting, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar received a clear majority of all votes. Although only players can actually win the award, a Buffalo Bills coach also received a vote. For a special reason.

At the NFL Honors, Patrick Mahomes was voted MVP, the most valuable player of the season, with an overwhelming majority. The Kansas City Chiefs superstar received 48 of 50 first-place votes, easily beating out Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Both will meet in the Super Bowl on Sunday night.

A change in the voting process this year ensured that significantly more players received MVP votes. For the first time, voters could write a total of five players on their ballots. Previously, they had to decide on one star.

In total, 15 NFL stars received at least one vote this year.

Curiously, though, one coach’s name also appeared on the list. Denny Kellington, “assistant athletic trainer” for the Buffalo Bills, managed a fifth-place finish and therefore ended the voting with one point.

The reason? Kellington was instrumental in resuscitating Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The safety survived and did not suffer any major consequential injuries, in part because of Kellington’s quick help.

As reported by the “Associated Press”, the vote came from “ESPN” reporter Suzy Kolber. She said the vote was a “symbolic gesture that represents ‘everyone’ who carries the burden of this job every week. “
