Damar Hamlin speaks at the NFL Honors about his cardiac arrest on the field and reveals what gives him courage. He also thanks an ICU doctor who also helped him a lot mentally

Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest during an NFL game of his Buffalo Bills on 2 January and was in danger of losing his life afterwards, moved the entire sports world.

At the NFL Honors, first responders who saved Hamlin’s life were now honored with a video tribute and then brought on stage, followed by Hamlin. While there, the safety gave an impressive speech.

“Every day I am amazed that my experiences have been able to encourage so many others across the country and even around the world – encourage to pray, encourage to spread love and encourage to keep fighting no matter the circumstances,” he said.

“A sudden cardiac arrest is something I would never have chosen as part of my story, but that’s because our own visions are too small, even when we think we see the whole picture. My vision was to play in the NFL and be the best player I could be, but God’s plan was to have a purpose bigger than any game in this world. “

Hamlin thanks intensivist

Hamlin named an intensive care physician named Yusef who cared for him and survived a similar incident. “He showed me that he was OK and that meant so much to me,” Hamlin said. “There was so much insecurity at the time and he came to me to show that I could live a normal life again. That meant so much to me and my mother. I want to say a big thank you to him.”

Further, Hamlin said, “All my life I have felt that God is using me to give hope to others, and now, under these special circumstances, I can say that He is doing what He has always done. I have a long journey ahead of me, a journey full of unknowns and a journey full of milestones, but it’s much easier to face your fears when you know your purpose.”

Also of note: Bills assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington, who performed CPR on Hamlin, was picked fifth for NFL MVP voting.
