The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers will play the first NFL game in Brazil in September. When it comes to jersey colors, even a Packers player had to apologize
On September 6, the first NFL game on Brazilian soil will take place in Sao Paulo. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers will face each other.
The game is already the talk of the town, or more precisely the colors of both teams’ jerseys. Packers rookie Josh Jacobs has now even apologized for spreading misinformation.
On the “Green Light” podcast a few days ago, the running back explained that the Packers had been told that they were not allowed to wear green during their trip to South America.
“They said you can’t even wear green in the part of Brazil we’re traveling to. They said it had something to do with the local gangs,” said Jacobs.
Now came the apology. “Damn, I was misinformed. Sorry, Brazil. See you soon,” the running back wrote on social media.
The league itself has also already commented on the issue. Fans and players are permitted to wear green clothing on site. A spokeswoman told the Philadelphia Inquirer: When kickoff takes place at the September game, “you’ll see a stadium full of fans wearing the green of the Eagles and the green of the Packers. “
Green jerseys allowed by NFL
Multiple media outlets had previously reported that neither team could wear green jerseys. The trigger is said to be the venue of the duel, the stadium of the Brazilian soccer club SC Corinthians.
According to the Daily Mail, the traditional Brazilian club has imposed a ban on the use of the color green in its own stadium. For one simple reason: their big city rivals and arch-enemies Palmeiras Sao Paulo wear exactly the same color.
However, it is still unclear which jerseys both teams will end up wearing. In any case, the Eagles are the nominal home team
