Ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft, one of the leading analysts expresses his disappointment with the results of the past talent pool.
Next week, it’s time for the annual NFL Combine in Indianapolis. From February 23 to March 2, the best American football talents in countless disciplines will have the opportunity to impress the managers of the 32 NFL teams.
Ahead of the Combine, Daniel Jeremiah, NFL Network’s leading draft analyst, answered questions from journalists and explained that he was disappointed with last year’s draft class.
“I thought we might see a little more impact from all these defensive players. It was a really good defensive draft, and I know we haven’t quite gotten the performance out of a lot of these young players,” Jeremiah said in a Q&A session.
The analyst did not shy away from giving specific examples.
NFL Draft 2025: Carter and Hunter disappointed
“Abdul Carter has great stats in terms of pressures, but I thought he would jump right in and get double-digit sacks and really have some dominant moments, which I think is still coming for him,” Jeremiah said.
Travis Hunter, who was selected second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars and wanted to play both cornerback and wide receiver, also fell short of expectations.
“There was a lot of talk and obviously a lot of attention focused on Travis Hunter and how he would handle both positions, and that didn’t quite go as planned. It sounds like there have already been a few minor adjustments,“ the analyst continued.
Draft expert ‘disappointed’ with the 2025 class
However, Jeremiah did not want to look back on the draft in a purely negative light: ”I’m still excited about a lot of these guys. Nick Emmanwori (safety, drafted 35th overall by the Seattle Seahawks) was my 15th player last year and was then drafted in the second round. We saw what he did in the Super Bowl and how dominant he was.“
He continued: ”Tetairoa McMillan played great. He played better than I would have thought. I would call that a bit of a surprise – how quickly he established himself as the number one wide receiver in the league.“
The expert’s final conclusion: ”I think this draft class may not have had quite the immediate impact we had hoped for. I’m still very optimistic, but a little disappointed with the initial results.”
