NFL Draft 2024: Caleb Williams makes it exciting

Caleb Williams had until January 15 to make an important decision about his future. He made full use of the time

Caleb Williams already has the right amount of drama. In that respect, the quarterback is ready for the NFL.

Williams had until January 15 to declare for the 2024 draft. On January 15, the former USC Trojans playmaker finally let the cat out of the bag: he is aiming for the NFL next season, meaning he will take part in the talent draft in Detroit in April.

He announced this with a long and emotional post on Instagram.

His love and passion for the game has never waned, he wrote. “The gratitude for the opportunity to play this game grows every day.”

He thanked the Trojans, of course, but also friends, family and his former team, the Oklahoma Sooners. He had left the Sooners for the Trojans after his first college season.

“The journey would be empty without the people who have supported and loved me. My teammates – my brothers – have made the last few years the most fun I’ve ever had playing. I will always cherish the time we spent together. To my coaches and everyone else in the USC football ecosystem, thank you for your unparalleled support and dedication to helping me and the entire team be the best we can be,” he wrote.

Caleb Williams: Sports crash with the Trojans

“The best thing” this past college season, however, was an athletic downfall. The Trojans, who started the season with promise and a 6-0 record, finished the year 7-5, losing five of their last six games, including three in a row. As a result, the Trojans fell out of the AP Top 25

Williams had won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, but couldn’t carry its dominance into last season. Still, 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns (with only five interceptions) were decent. The Trojans’ crisis was not just down to him.

But now he’s moving on and is considered the top talent in this year’s quarterback class. He still has a lot to learn and is willing to do whatever it takes, the 22-year-old explained. “As a kid I said I was going to do this for the rest of my life, but I didn’t work this hard just to get to this point. I’m going to continue on my path to make this little kid proud of the man I’m going to be in the years to come. “
