Wide receiver Michael Jefferson of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns is in a serious car accident. The college prospect was considered a likely pick in one of the middle rounds in the run-up to the draft.
Wide receiver prospect Michael Jefferson was involved in a serious multi-car accident Sunday night in Mobile, Alabama, and required “multiple surgeries.” This was announced by his agent Jon Perzley to “ESPN”.
According to “TMZ Sports,” officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said a 2014 Dodge Charger driven by a 55-year-old man collided head-on with Jefferson’s 2019 Chevrolet Impala.
The driver of the Dodge, who was also struck by a 2008 Nissan Maxima, was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jefferson was considered a possible draft pick in the mid-to-late rounds. “CBS” further reports that Jefferson will now likely have to sign with an NFL team as an undrafted free agent given the severity of his injuries.
Jefferson had played the past two seasons in college for Louisiana after starting his college career at Alabama State in 2018. As a senior for the Ragin’ Cajuns last year, he recorded 51 receptions for 810 yards and seven touchdowns.
At the Combine, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound pass receiver ran a time of 4.56 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
