Defensive tackle Jalen Carter is one of the best, if not the best, player in the upcoming draft from a pure talent standpoint. However, he has shined more with antics and lack of fitness in recent months. Now he admitted that this has hurt his personal draft profile and will affect his pick.
Disastrous accidental drive during college and later too overweight for the Scouting Combine. To make matters worse, canceled all meetings with teams picking outside the top 10 at the draft.
The Jalen Carter record makes for difficult reading. At least off the field. On that field, the Georgia defensive tackle is beyond reproach. Experts are certain: he’s the best interior defensive lineman in the draft class.
But because of off-the-field antics, he’s not a candidate for the first two picks. So-called “off-the-field issues” make NFL teams very reluctant to see him.
Carter admits, “Will have significance “
In an interview with “HBO,” the Georgia alum now admitted that his off-field failures haven’t helped him. “It’s already going to have a little meaning,” Carter said.
“NFL teams look really deep into your resume. It could have been something I did in grade school,” the defensive tackle explained.
He was also, of course, questioned by teams about the incidents. “They wanted to hear my side of the stories and that was it,” Carter continues. However, no one believes that he will fall far behind in the draft. Not even his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. “He’s a once-in-a-generation talent,” the star agent enthuses.
Nearly all mock drafts have Carter in the top 10, most even in the first five picks.
