A former NFL professional is facing charges in connection with dogfighting.
Earlier this week, former NFL running back LeShon Johnson was indicted on 21 counts of dogfighting. And this several months after 190 dogs in his possession were confiscated.
Now a summary of the evidence against the former athlete has been submitted to the court – and it’s a doozy. According to the local newspaper “Oklahoman,” an electronic device was seized from Johnson that is said to show photos of dead and mutilated dogs, as well as a photo of a dog on a treadmill.
The evidence also includes a recorded telephone conversation with an informant. In this conversation, Johnson is said to have described a particular dog breed as “nice and nasty”.
Ex-NFL pro Johnson already pleaded guilty in 2005
According to the report, the former running back bred special fighting dogs. He is alleged to have developed bloodlines for dog fighting for years, in some cases even decades. He pleaded guilty to dog fighting in 2005.
Johnson was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the third round in 1994 and later played for the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants. He scored a total of seven touchdowns in the NFL.
