Everything is new for Kenny Pickett. New year, new season, new club, new role. Despite an apparent step backwards, the quarterback is enthusiastic
This offseason is a very special one for Kenny Pickett. After his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 26-year-old is starting a new chapter with the Philadelphia Eagles.
At first glance, it is more of a step backwards for Pickett. After all, Jalen Hurts was able to establish himself as the starting quarterback. Pickett is therefore destined for the backup role for the time being. In Pittsburgh, he was previously the starter and thus probably the most important man in the offense.
Nevertheless, he is optimistic. “Change is a great thing,” Pickett told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I’m going through it right now. I was in Pittsburgh for seven years, and now I’m over in Philadelphia…. I think a lot of people probably have a negative attitude about change, but it’s really just a matter of attitude. I think if you have a positive attitude, everything will work out.”
He continues: “There are a lot of people who doubt. That’s probably the majority of people in the media and in the fan base.” Pickett wants to win over his critics with his positive attitude
Of his seven years in Pittsburgh, he spent five years in college with the Panthers and two with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After the past season, the Steelers restructured their squad at the QB position. With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, two new big-name passers arrived, while Pickett had to make way.
The Philadelphia Eagles secured the services of the 26-year-old for a third-round pick in 2024 and a seventh-round pick in 2025. In addition to the player, they will also receive a fourth-round pick in 2024.
