Will the Kansas City Chiefs return to Dallas? The city’s mayor is in favor
The potential relocation of the Kansas City Chiefs continues to be the dominant topic in the NFL.
While some are against the franchise moving to another city, there are also people who would welcome the change of cities.
One of them is Eric Johnson. He is the mayor of the city of Dallas and is now arguing that the Chiefs should come back to “Big D”.
“As I’ve said before, our market is big enough, growing enough and loves football more than enough to support another NFL team. Especially a franchise that has its roots here in this city,” Johnson told the Dallas News.
Because, what many and especially young NFL fans don’t know: The Chiefs actually had their origins in Dallas, about a nine-hour drive from Kansas City.
After being founded in 1959, the team played as the Dallas Texans until 1962, after which they moved to Kansas City.
The Chiefs’ home ground – GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium – is not even in the state of Kansas, but in Missouri. Only Kansas City lies on the border between the two states.
Dallas is known to be in Texas and, according to Mayor Johnson, still has plenty of capacity, especially in the south of the city.
“We need an AFC team that plays in the south of the city,” the politician announced on social media some time ago.
