After controversial statements about the storming of the US Capitol last year, Washington’s head coach Ron Rivera orders his coordinator Jack Del Rio to pay a fine in the amount of 100,000 US dollars.
Jack Del Rio is being fined by his own head coach Ron Rivera after his statements about storming the US Capitol, which he called a “minor altercation”.
On their Twitter channel, the Washington Commanders shared a statement from Rivera in which he sharply criticises his employee for the statements made. In addition, Del Rio is to pay a fine of 100,000 US dollars, which will be donated to charity.

“He has the right as a US citizen to express his opinion and it is his constitutional right to do so. Nonetheless, words have consequences and his statements have hurt many people in our community,” part of the post reads.
In distancing themselves from Del Rio, Commanders and Rivera are responding to the shitstorm the 59-year-old has faced in the wake of his comments on the storming of the US Capitol, which killed several people on 6 January 2021.

Before the penalty was handed down, former Washington running back Brian Mitchell also condemned the statements and called on Rivera to “get a grip” on his coordinator.
