NFL Combine: Quarterback sets two records for his position – including a strong 40-yard dash

Before the Combine, Taylen Green only made the headlines occasionally. But at the NFL event for draft participants, the quarterback made history.

With the exception of Fernando Mendoza, the quarterbacks in this draft class are not among the top prospects. However, Taylen Green used the NFL Combine to draw attention to himself. The 23-year-old from the Arkansas Razorbacks put in a historic performance in Indianapolis over the weekend.

He achieved 43.5 inches (around 1.10 meters) in the vertical jump and landed at eleven feet and two inches (around 3.40 meters) in the standing long jump. Until now, Anthony Richardson held the respective records among quarterbacks. The fourth pick in the 2023 draft jumped 40 inches high and ten feet and nine inches far. He clocked a time of 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash. That was only 0.03 seconds slower than Michael Vick, who set the best time for quarterbacks in 2001. According to ESPN, no quarterback has beaten the 4.4-second mark since at least 2003.

According to CBS, Green’s physique is most comparable to Trevor Lawrence, who went to the Jacksonville Jaguars as the first overall pick in 2021. In the US broadcaster’s ranking, he is eleventh among the quarterbacks in the draft class and 272nd overall.

Green excels at the Combine: Criticism of throwing technique

Green spent his first three college seasons with the Boise State Broncos and the past two years with the Razorbacks. In 2025, he threw 19 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and gained 2,714 yards through the air. He added 777 yards on the ground for eight touchdowns. In total, Green had 59 passing touchdowns, 35 interceptions, 9,662 passing yards with a completion percentage of 60.1%, 35 rushing touchdowns, and 2,403 rushing yards during his college years. However, he only saw sporadic snaps in his freshman year. According to ESPN, scouts are particularly critical of his throwing technique. His movement needs to be faster. However, his legs are obviously already NFL-ready.
