NFL Combine 2022: Heavily impressed – Daniel Faalele sets record

Daniel Faalele is not only a strong O-lineman who could be selected in the second round in the draft. The imposing presence also set an impressive record at the 2022 NFL Combine.

Munich – Daniel Faalele impresses right away.

Just walking into the room is enough to do that. Because the offensive lineman is 2.04 metres tall and weighs 174 kilograms.

At the NFL Combine, he automatically attracts attention. He is the heaviest player to attend the Combine in the last 23 years, with Faalele beating the record by seven kilograms over that period, according to the NFL. According to “ESPN,” Aaron Gibson was the heaviest player before Faalele in 1999, when he weighed 175 kilograms.

Daniel Faalele: Day two candidate

Growing up in Australia, Faalele first played basketball and rugby as a child, then later switched to football. As he revealed, he even weighed 193 kilograms when he transferred to the University of Minnesota in 2018.

With the Golden Gophers, he developed into a strong tackle in the following years and is seen as a second-day candidate in the draft. At his current weight, he would also be the heaviest player in the NFL. As Faalele emphasised, however, he only wants to weigh 170 kilograms at the start of an NFL training camp.

Currently, Faalele is showing himself like numerous other talents at the NFL Combine (from 10 p.m. live in the NFL Network livestream on ran.de). On the second day of drills, some of the offensive linemen and running backs skipped the bench press drill. The reason was the schedule, as the bench press was scheduled on the same day as the drills compared to the past.

Which was supposed to ensure players didn’t linger longer than necessary in Indianapolis, then ensured many skipped the drill.

“I’m going to do it at my pro day,” linebacker Nate Landman told the AP. It would have been his turn with the Bench Press at 10 a.m. and the 40-yard dash at 8 p.m.

“You don’t want to get going and come back down and then try to go back up again. There’s a lot of stress in that whole process. And if I can relieve that stress by putting some things off until the pro day, why not? I just want to give my best performance,” he said.
