NFL coach Jim Harbaugh is involved in a lawsuit involving former Ravens assistant Matthew Weiss. The case involves unauthorized access to computers and identity theft in over 20 cases.
Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, is involved in a lawsuit. It concerns his former position as head coach at Michigan University.
In the 2021 and 2022 seasons, his paths crossed with Matthew Weiss at college in Michigan. The former assistant coach of the Baltimore Ravens is accused of unauthorized access to private computers in 14 cases and aggravated identity theft in ten cases.
Trial against former Harbaugh assistant: Accusation of identity theft
This is said to have happened between 2015 and 2022. So also when they worked together in Michigan for two years.
Weiss is said to have had access to over 150,000 intimate photos and private information of students. The 42-year-old was fired in January 2023 after the investigation against him became known.
Harbaugh is part of the lawsuit because Chief Judge Parker Stinar has ruled that those involved at the University of Michigan are responsible: “The fact that the university only took meaningful protective measures after an important game sends a clear message: the welfare of the students was secondary.”
According to the judge, the athletic success of the Wolverines, the University of Michigan’s team, was placed above the well-being of students, as the coach did not take action until after the decisive playoff games, despite knowing about his assistant’s actions. In addition to Harbaugh, Athletic Director Warde Manuel, who is still active with the Wolverines, is also involved in the lawsuit.
“Had Harbaugh implemented basic controls over his staff, the plaintiffs and students would have been protected from abusers like Weiss. Instead, Weiss was a highly paid employee who was promoted by the football program and within the program,” the judge criticized the conduct of those responsible.
