Cologne (SID) – The National Football League (NFL) is changing its controversial overtime rules permanently – but only for the play-offs. The owners of the 32 teams agreed on a corresponding proposal by the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts at the annual meeting in Palm Beach/Florida on Tuesday.
This means that in the future, both teams are guaranteed possession of the ball in overtime of play-off games – if both teams score touchdowns, the next score counts. Previously, the team that won the coin toss and chose offense could end the duel with a touchdown. If this was not successful, a field goal was enough for the opponent to win the game.
