NFL: Arch Manning in the draft? Quarterback could stay in college

Arch Manning is set to continue the family tradition in the NFL. The 21-year-old will start the new season as starting quarterback.

In numerous mock drafts, Arch Manning is considered a potential first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. However, the quarterback and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning could play at least one more year of college football.

At least that’s what his grandfather Archie Manning, himself a former NFL quarterback, believes. “Arch won’t do that. He’s going to stay in Texas,” the 76-year-old replied in an interview with Texas Monthly when asked if his grandson would make the move to the NFL after the upcoming season.

Although Arch Manning caused a stir at times last season with the Texas Longhorns, he has only made two starts and attempted a total of 95 passes in college football so far.

Several NFL scouts have also recently expressed doubts about the maturity of the potentially fourth Manning quarterback in the league. Now Manning is facing his first season as the Longhorns’ official starting quarterback.

But even if he has a strong season, an immediate jump to the NFL is considered unlikely. Both Peyton and Eli Manning spent three years as starters in college before being selected as the number one pick in the draft.

Arch at least knows how to deal with the media pressure: “Sure, it’s nice, but it doesn’t mean anything. I have to prove myself first,” said the quarterback at the Longhorns’ Media Day.

Arch Manning: Hammer matchup in Week 1

Manning and Texas are off to a flying start in sporting terms: the Longhorns face reigning college football champions Ohio State Buckeyes in their season opener.

This will be a first test of strength for Manning, and one that NFL scouts are sure to be watching closely.
