The Detroit Lions give Amon-Ra St- Brown a record contract. The wide receiver wants to say thank you in his own way
Amon-Ra St. Brown has his mega-contract.
The Detroit Lions are paying him around 120 million dollars for a new four-year contract, 77 million of which is guaranteed. That makes St. Brown the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
However, the new working paper does not mean that the 2021 fourth-round pick is now slowing down. He had been driven for years by the fact that 16 receivers went off the board before him in the draft. He still knows the names today.
What is driving him now should be clear. Because last season, after a strong year, the Lions only failed in the championship game against the San Francisco 49ers.
St. Brown: “Werder won’t change me “
“I have to work harder. I told everybody I’m going to work harder now,” St. Brown told ESPN. “I’m not going to change. My goal – our goal – is that Lombardi Trophy. We need it. We feel like we can do it. So that’s our goal before the season – we want that trophy.”
St. Brown can look back on an outstanding 2023 season. He totaled 1,515 yards and ten touchdowns on 119 receptions in the regular season. In the playoffs, he added another 274 yards and a touchdown in three games.
He made the All-Pro team and was nominated for the Pro Bowl. It was his second Pro Bowl appearance. In total, the 24-year-old has 3,588 yards and 21 touchdowns after three years in the NFL.
St. Brown emphasized that he will not change. “Everybody knows that – or I hope they do, or they’ll figure it out.”
He’s also happy to be where he is. Even though the Lions only selected him 112th overall and 17th receiver in the draft. “I’m just glad I’m here for four more years. Being around the guys, the coaches, the teammates, the fans – everybody that’s a part of this organization…. I hear a lot of stories about other teams and stuff like that, but this is all I know and they’ve been great to me so far. “
