With his diss track against Drake in the Super Bowl halftime show, rapper Kendrick Lamar polarized opinion. Starting with comedian Conan O’Brien, the brawlers now have to take a dig at the Oscars.
The opening speech by comedian Conan O’Brien, who hosted the Oscar ceremony for the first time, caused quite a stir. In addition to US President Donald Trump and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Kendrick Lamar and Drake also received a snide comment.
Lamar performed at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, which the Philadelphia Eagles won 40-22 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He used the big stage for a medley of his songs, which included his diss track “Not Like Us” against rapper Drake.
O’Brien took up the topic in his speech to take a dig at the two rappers. “We’re halfway through the show, which means it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to call Drake a pedophile,” said the comedian, adding with a laugh, “Don’t worry, I have a lawyer.”
Lamar and Drake in constant trouble
O’Brien, of course, was referring to Lamar’s diss track, which won five Grammys, among other things, and marked the end of a long series of diss tracks between the two rappers.
In the song, Lamar raps, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile,” referring to Drake’s album of the same name, “Certified Lover Boy.”
The enmity between Lamar and Drake continued to escalate last year. Drake is in an ongoing legal battle with his record label Universal Music Group (UMG), accusing it of defamation and harassment for releasing and promoting the song “Not Like Us.”
