NFL superstar Aaron Donald ended his career just over a week ago. In a recent interview with his wife, he looked back on his career.
117 sacks, 841 pressures (both including playoffs), ten Pro Bowls, three Defensive Player of the Year awards and, of course, victory in the 2022 Super Bowl: Aaron Donald can look back on a career full of superlatives.
The lynchpin of the Los Angeles Rams ended his active career on March 15.
In an interview with his wife Erica, which was published on the Rams’ social networks, the 32-year-old looked back on his career.
“I think I was the best player in my generation,” Donald said and continued: “But I don’t think I can compare myself to players from previous eras because they played very differently.”
Aaron Donald on Sean McVay: “A special relationship “
Donald had many words of praise for his former head coach Sean McVay: “When he came to us, I said to him after our first year together: As long as you’re the head coach here, I’ll play for the Rams.
I owe him a lot, we have a special relationship that goes far beyond football.”
Of course, he couldn’t quite keep that promise, as McVay is still the head coach of the Rams.
Aaron Donald ends career with emotional statement
The defensive tackle took to social media to thank the Los Angeles Rams for ten years of service with a video and statement upon his retirement.
“I know I will miss my teammates and the camaraderie, including the coaches who had a lasting impact on me,” wrote one of the best defensive players in history.
What Donald was particularly happy about in his statement: that he can end his career with the franchise that drafted him in 2014. “Not many players get drafted by a team, win the Super Bowl with that team and finish their career there. I don’t take that for granted. “
Cheers to what’s next. Extending a big thank you to the Rams and all of the fans for your support over these last 10 years. Much love. pic.twitter.com/edGxkUYdLz

Donald was drafted by the Rams with the 13th pick of the first round in 2014 and his illustrious career has included 111 sacks in the regular season, three Defensive Player of the Year awards and eight All-Pro honors.
The nine-time Pro Bowler celebrated his greatest success in February 2022, when he and the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23:20 in the Super Bowl.
Whether he was really the best player of his generation is a matter of opinion. In any case, many of his opponents are glad they no longer have to compete against him and some probably share Donald’s self-assessment.
Kyler Murray, quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, reacted to the retirement with the following words: “Thank God. I’m honored to have competed against the best of all time. Enjoy retirement and please don’t come back. “
