Following the success of the streaming service “Peacock”, Amazon Prime Video is reportedly also getting into playoff broadcasting next season
23 million people watched the first NFL playoff game in history between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs on “Peacock”. This made the Wild Card Game the most streamed event in the USA.
The NBC-Universal subsidiary had acquired the rights for 110 million dollars and therefore came in for fierce criticism from fans and players.
For the first time, football fans had to pay extra money for a play-off game. Nevertheless, “Peacock” gained a reported 2.8 million new subscribers.
Due to its great success, another streaming giant is now likely to enter the business. As the Wall Street Journal reports, Amazon Prime Video has acquired an exclusive game for the 2024 season playoffs.
Accordingly, a playoff match is to be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video in January 2025.
Of course, Amazon Prime Video is not new to the business; the online giant had been showing the Thursday Night Games of the regular season since last season, as well as the game on Black Friday. However, if the report proves true, Amazon Prime Video would celebrate its premiere in the postseason
