The 2023 NFL season was historic in many ways. Since 2015, the 2-point conversion has never been as successful as last season
As “ESPN” journalist Mike Clay announced on “X”, the 2-point conversion was historically successful in 2023. He looked at the statistics from 2015 onwards.
In 2015, there was a rule change whereby a kick for the extra point after a successful touchdown was moved to the 15-yard line. The rules for the 2-point conversion remained the same.
In the published statistics, it is particularly noticeable that teams are passing less and less often, although the effectiveness of pass plays has increased compared to previous seasons. 50 percent of pass plays with a 2-point conversion were successful – six percent higher than in the previous season. While a pass play was called on 75 percent of attempts in 2022, the figure fell to 65 percent in 2023.
In addition, the running game was very successful with the 2-point conversion in 2023. 64% of running plays resulted in a successful conversion. This represents an increase of seven percent compared to the previous year.
Overall, 55% of all 2-point conversions were successful in the 2023 season. This figure includes both pass and run plays
2023 was perhaps the most significant season for the 2-pt conversion since the XP rule was changed in 2015.
