Bitter start to the preseason for the New York Jets: Zach Wilson has suffered a knee injury. It is not yet clear how serious the injury is.
Munich – It was a moment that could change an entire season: Zach Wilson injured his right knee during his New York Jets’ preseason game at the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wilson was forced out of the pocket on a snap in the first quarter, ran to his right and tried to avoid an opponent, but after the move the quarterback went down and stayed down. He then limped off the field. An MRI examination on Saturday will now provide further information on the actual severity of the injury.
Cruciate ligament apparently intact
A good sign: The Jets are confident that it is not a torn cruciate ligament, which would mean the end of the season, but “only” a sprain of the posterior cruciate ligament. Wilson already suffered this injury last season and missed four games.
Jets coach Robert Saleh said after the game that initial tests on Wilson showed the ACL was intact. “I’m always concerned until you get the final results,” said Saleh, who, when asked if Wilson would have been better off running the ball out of bounds, said, “100 percent. He got a bit greedy there,” said Saleh, who admitted to swearing properly when Wilson hurt himself.
Wilson himself was in good spirits but obviously a little frustrated, Saleh said. “As good humoured as you can be in this situation. “
Joe Flacco stands by as replacement
Who is standing by as a replacement? First and foremost, 37-year-old Joe Flacco, but he didn’t make an appearance against the Eagles. “Joe is a phenomenal player,” Saleh praised. “He has a great camp.” Mike White and Chris Streveler are the other playmakers in the squad.
