New England Patriots: Former teammate fears problems of Newton with Belichick

Cam Newton has moved to the New England Patriots, a former teammate is worried about Newton because of the collaboration with Bill Belichick.

Cam Newton is following in big footsteps with the New England Patriots, after all he is following no one less than Tom Brady.

So far he has only played for the Carolina Panthers since they drafted him in 2011. There he formed a duo with Panthers coach Ron Rivera, while in the Patriots he now meets Bill Belichick.

And this is exactly the fact that a former team mate of Newton is concerned. “It’s just my opinion, but I don’t think Cam feels no pressure when the coaches criticize his plays,” Kyle Love told the Boston Herald. The tackle has played with Newton in the Panthers for the past five years, but had previously played with the Patriots for two years, among other things.

Love added: “If he had a bad game in Carolina, the coaching staff didn’t say much to him because they felt he might break or sulk. They never corrected him as much as Bill did with Tom.”

If Newton didn’t deliver, Belichick would take him to his chest. “Bill will just be Bill, and he’ll let Cam know what he thinks,” Love said, adding, “Everyone gets treated equally, I love that about Bill because it makes the whole team feel like everyone is being held responsible for their mistakes.”

Belichick was also not afraid to yell at superstar Brady in front of the whole team. “Every time he does that to me, it’s deserved. “He’s trying to take me to the next level. I don’t take it personally,” Brady said in February 2017 about Belichick’s unfamiliar handling of his quarterback.

“I want Cam to be successful”

Newton’s former teammate Love is worried about the Pats newcomer: “My fear is: Will Cam fit into her system off the field? Because I want Cam to win and be successful. I want to see him win games and a championship, I love that guy. I just hope he can do it under Bill’s rules.”

However, Newton will have to do without many teammates in the coming season, as several Patriots players have already made use of their opt-out right. For the first time in years, missing the playoffs would therefore not be a surprise for the Patriots – even if the Newton/Belichick duo should harmonise.
