The 2023 season is one to forget for the New England Patriots under Head Coach Bill Belichick. With a loss against the New York Jets in week 18, the coach would even set two negative records
The situation surrounding the New England Patriots is currently anything but satisfactory.
With a record of 4-12, the franchise from Foxborough is in fourth place in the AFC East and the playoffs have long been out of reach. Nevertheless, the Patriots have not been picked as high as in the upcoming draft for years.
However, that should only be a small consolation for head coach Bill Belichick, whose coaching chair is said to be shaky. And should another defeat against the New York Jets follow in week 18, the 71-year-old would even set two negative records that he would probably be happy to do without.
A loss against the division rivals would be Belichick’s 165th regular-season defeat. Only Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher have “managed” this mark so far.
If you include the playoffs, Belichick has lost 177 games. Here, too, the less glorious first place is only one defeat away, where Tom Landry currently still stands.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would set NFL negative records if he lost to Jets
The truth is that none of the former head coaches mentioned has been on the sidelines in more NFL games than the six-time Super Bowl winner. He is still 14 games short of the most wins as a coach on the sideline (including playoffs).
However, another streak is in danger of being broken on Sunday evening. The Patriots have not lost to the Jets in 15 meetings. The last time that happened was in December 2015.
