According to a media report, Netflix has won the bidding for a documentary about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s. Will NFL games now follow in the future?
This deal is likely to fuel speculation: Netflix has reportedly landed another NFL deal. Puck News reports that the streaming provider has beaten out competitor ESPN in the bidding for a documentary about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
The deal reportedly cost Netflix almost 50 million dollars. Amazon, among others, is said to have shown interest in the documentary.
The deal, if it actually becomes official, fuels the rumours that Netflix may also show live NFL games in the future like Amazon Prime Video.
The documentary is about the 1990s, the heyday of America’s Team with a total of three Super Bowl victories. In addition, “never-before-seen footage and interviews” with greats such as Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith are to be part of the ten-part documentary.
Jones had bought the Cowboys in 1989 and still owns the franchise today. However, the Cowboys have been chasing another Super Bowl win ever since without success.
Documentary “Quarterback” coming in July
For Netflix, it would be the next NFL documentary after “Quarterback.” The series can be seen from 12 July and follows Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 NFL season – both on the field and in private
