Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is causing a stir with a questionable move in the game against the Panthers. His next opponent, Browns star Myles Garrett, is warned ahead of Sunday’s clash.
Munich – This scene resonates.
Last NFL game day, an action between Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and Panthers defensive end Brian Burns caused a stir. After a sack, Jones had lost the ball and twisted his opponent’s ankle while lying down.
While the playmaker has already stated that he only wanted to tackle Burns because he thought the ball was in his hands, various opponents and experts see it differently and accuse the rookie of intentionality.
Jones meets Garrett slightly bruised
In their first game back from action, the Patriots will face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. That’s when Jones will have to deal with Myles Garrett, and he knows what he’s in for.
“Obviously, I saw the scene,” he said in a team press release. “I’m going to withhold my comments on that. Hopefully it won’t happen to me. I don’t know, though. Is he going to turn into an ankle grabber? We’ll see.”
The match-up will be huge for both teams as they battle for a playoff spot with a record of 5-4. In Garrett, the league leader in sacks awaits Jones – though he also brings an injury with him to Foxborough.
“I’m a bit banged up. I’m fine, though. I just kind of sprained my foot last game, I think at the end of the third quarter,” said the defensive end, who was unable to practice Wednesday and Thursday because of it.
Garrett: Brian Burns partly to blame
“It was really just a precaution. I probably could have trained the back two days but there was no point in fighting the pain,” he said.
In any case, the 25-year-old believes he is ready for the duel with Mac Jones. Especially since – unlike many others – he doesn’t just see the Patriots’ signal caller as being responsible. “If I’ve tackled or sacked someone and I still let them grab me, then that’s my fault,” the Browns star explained. “I’m not saying it was Brian’s fault though. He wasn’t expecting it. “
