With the Atlanta Falcons versus New York Jets game, London is experiencing its NFL comeback. But this is only one highlight within ten days. ran shows what is planned in the British capital.
Munich – The NFL is back in London!
After a year’s break due to the pandemic, there will be one game each this weekend and next weekend at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The kick-off is the duel between the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets on Sunday
Around the games, the NFL has put together a colourful programme to get the city in the mood for the celebrity guest and to entertain the fans on site in the best possible way.
Jets legend Mangold visits pub
Friday will be all about the New York Jets. At 4:30 pm (all times in Central European Summer Time) the “Gang Green” will train in London. Then at 5pm, Jets legend Nick Mangold will visit “The Barrowboy & Banker” at 6-8 Borough High Street, which acts as the official Jets pub these days and opens at 1pm each day.
The three-time All-Pro will take questions from fans. However, due to spacing rules, autographs and joint photos will not be possible, the New York club stresses.
Falcons cheerleaders open NFL store
On Saturday, the cheerleaders of the Atlanta Falcons will officially open the NFL Store at the stadium at 1 pm. At the same time, ex-pro Warrick Dunn will drop by the official Falcons pub “The Admiralty” in Trafalgar Square. He will also be answering questions from fans.
Dunn is scheduled to be at the NFL Store at 3 p.m., while the cheerleaders will grace the Falcons pub at 4 p.m.
Streets at stadium closed almost entire game day
On match day itself, the countdown begins in the early hours of the morning. At 5:30 a.m., the roads around the stadium will be closed and reopened to traffic at 8 p.m. at the earliest.
This depends on the length of the game. 90 minutes after the end of the game, the stadium will close and the roads will be open to vehicles again.
Four hours of entertainment for fans in front of the stadium
There will be plenty to keep fans entertained from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the High Road, which runs right past the stadium. The NFL cites fun photos, team areas and performances by the cheerleaders as examples.
In addition, there will be numerous food and drink stands selling mainly typical US food. But healthier options and alternatives for vegans, vegetarians, gluten or nut allergy sufferers are also on the menu. By the way: According to the NFL, fans – especially early arrivals – would eat four to five times on average on game day.
Stadium opens its gates at 12:30
From 11:30am, British NFL journalist Neil Reynolds will interview guests on the mini pitch in the Welcome Zone outside the stadium. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium then opens its gates at 12:30 – a good three hours before kick-off.
The teams can be seen on the pitch for the first time at 14:30 – then the warm-up is scheduled. From around 15:20, the two teams are introduced and then run in with great fanfare.
“God Save The Queen” will be heard at 15:30, followed by “The Star-Spangled Banner”. The game between the Falcons and the Jets is finally scheduled to kick off at 3:35pm. The goal for both is to pick up their second win of the season before the bye week.
Tuesday sees the International Combine
The next important event – already in the run-up to the 2022 season – also takes place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday. At the International Combine, players from all over the world bring themselves into the game for the Internatiopnal Player Pathway Programme.
Fifty talented players have been invited to London to present themselves to NFL scouts. Among them are twelve Germans, a total of 14 of the players were active in the ELF season that has just ended.
Jaguars cheerleaders and ex-pro with two appointments each
From Friday, preparation for the second London Game begins. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who host the Miami Dolphins, will practice in London that day. Their former running back Maurice Jones-Drew will pay a visit to “The Admiralty” – the pub is the place to be for “Jags” fans during those days.
The ex-pro will also stop by the NFL Store at the stadium. The team’s cheerleaders will be tearing down the same programme.
Coloured programme also on the second Game Day
On Game Day itself, the programme will not be very different from that of the first Sunday. In any case, Reynolds will again welcome guests to the mini-pitch in the Welcome Zone for interviews from 11:30am.
Kickoff for the game between the Jaguars and Dolphins will again be at 3:35pm. This game will be the grand finale of ten very special London days for the NFL. Welcome back to Europe!
