The Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs parade ends in chaos, with one person killed in a shooting.
Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs’ parade has been overshadowed by a shooting that left one person dead. This was confirmed by Kansas City police chief Stacey Graves at a press conference. In addition, 21 people are said to have been injured.
The fire department reported that eight of them were in an “immediate life-threatening” condition, seven were in a “life-threatening” condition and six others had “minor injuries”.
According to Kansas City police, the shooting occurred near the Union Station parking lot, just a few feet from where Chiefs players had spoken to supporters cheering for them moments earlier.
“I’m angry about what happened. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,” Graves said.
“We have taken two armed individuals into custody for further investigation,” police wrote on X. Police Chief Graves later increased the number of people taken into custody to three. Panic broke out among the many fans after the shooting.
“I’m praying for Kansas City,” star quarterback Patrick Mahomes also wrote on X after the incidents. The Chiefs spoke out a short time later and expressed their “deep shock at this senseless act of violence that took place outside Union Station following the parade”. The team’s hearts are “with the victims, their families and all of Kansas City”.
