Dalvin Cook: According to expert, contract over five million US dollars is out of the question

Dalvin Cook is apparently in no hurry to find a new club in the NFL. According to one expert, the running back is not willing to sell himself short.

For the first time in his NFL career, Dalvin Cook is a free agent. The running back, who made four Pro Bowls in his six years with the Minnesota Vikings, apparently has no intention of selling himself short on his new contract.

NFL reporter Tom Pelissero hinted at this on the “Rich Eisen Show”. According to Pelissero, the 27-year-old’s camp is just as open to a one-year deal as it is to a multi-year contract, but other important numbers have to be right.

“Dalvin Cook is not banking on signing a four or five million US dollar contract. That’s not going to happen,” Pelissero stressed. “It’s going to be a significant contract. “

Cook gets two million US dollars from Vikings despite firing

Accordingly, the Cook side wants to see his value and contribution on the field reflected in the contract as well. Time is not necessarily pressing for the former second-round pick, as he would be entitled to two million US dollars (1.85 million euros) from the Vikings contract after being released.

The five-year, US$63 million (€58.5 million) contract signed in 2020 would have earned him a base salary of US$10.4 million (just under €9.7 million) in the 2023 season. With the fixed two million US dollars for this season, Cook has so far earned a good 34 million US dollars (31.6 million euros) from his contracts with the Vikings alone, according to Spotrac.

Over the past four years, he has always run for a four-figure number of rushing yards, even a bearish 1557 in 2020.That season, Cook also totaled 16 touchdowns in 14 regular-season appearances. In total, he visited the end zone via the run 47 times, in addition to five receiving touchdowns. In the postseason, he has two rushing touchdowns.

According to “Spotrac”, Christian McCaffrey currently has the fattest contract of all running backs in terms of average annual salary with the San Francisco 49ers with a good 16 million US dollars. Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints is behind him with 15 million US dollars. In total, nine ball carriers come to an eight-figure sum.

Cook’s potential landing spots include the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Aside from the Bills, all of the aforementioned teams have enough cap space to meet the longtime Vikings star’s presumed demands
