They tried for a long time, but they didn’t agree in time before the deadline: Dak Prescott won’t get a long-term deal with the Dallas Cowboys. He will play under the franchise day in 2020.
Actually, Cowboy owner Jerry Jones is known for saying, “Deadline make deals.” At Dak Prescott, despite a long, drawn-out effort, that didn’t work.
The Dallas Cowboys and their quarterback couldn’t agree on Wednesday either.
Meaning: The 26-year-old will play under the Franchise Day in 2020, which he already signed a few weeks ago. Which is practically a one-year contract, worth $31.4 million.
NFL Network reports that Prescott was directly involved in the talks until the very last minute to finally get the deal, which both parties have been tinkering with for half an eternity, into dry cloths. The offer on the table was said to be $33 to $35 million per year, 110 million of which is guaranteed, including a $50 million signing bonus.
Even in the run-up, the contract period was another sticking point. The cowboys wanted to bind Prescott for five years, the signal caller himself only for four years.
There is a reason I was never a @dallascowboys fan growing up or before they drafted @dak after today, who knows how much longer I’ll be cheering for them.

After the failed negotiations, Daq’s brother Tad spoke up and let it be known what he thought of the No-Deal. “There’s a reason I was never a Cowboys fan when I was growing up, or before they drafted Dak. After today, who knows how long I’ll keep cheering them on.”
Prescott’s only the third quarterback to win franchise day and play the season. His two predecessors are Drew Brees (2005 in San Diego) and Kirk Cousins (2016 and 2017 in Washington). Both eventually moved to New Orleans (Brees) and Minnesota (Cousins).
