Interesting mixture for an interesting deal: Travis Kelce wants to buy the New York Mets together with Joe Thomas, Brian Urlacher and DeMarco Murray. They join a bidding group around Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.
The New York Mets will not have to worry about sporting competence if a certain group of bidders wins the contract.
Because, as “ESPN” reports, it is illustrious names from the NFL who have now entered.
Illustrious names
Belong to them: Reigning Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce, longtime Browns pro Joe Thomas, Hall of Fame-Linebacker Brian Urlacher and DeMarco Murray, 2014 Offensive Player of the Year.
The quartet joins Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who already entered the takeover battle for the MLB club some time ago. Other investors include two-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards) and Mason Plumlee of the Denver Nuggets.
“It’s pretty cool to get a chance as a former athlete to be part of a group trying to buy a professional team,” Urlacher told ESPN. “It’s especially cool to be involved together with Alex. Alex is the man. And you got Kelce, Joe Thomas, DeMarco Murray: This group is great.”
Kelce, Tight End of the Kansas City Chiefs, added, “This is a crazy opportunity. I had the opportunity to meet Alex Rodriguez a few years ago and tell him how much I was a fan of his when I was a kid. I am very grateful for such an opportunity. I couldn’t imagine a more unique group of people taking responsibility.”
Who gets the contract?
The group bidding for former baseball superstar “A-Rod” is said to be $1.7 billion, with J.Lo. and he allegedly contributing $300 million. The top bid, according to the “New York Post”, is said to have been made by hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen with $2 billion.
But: As it is said, Mets-COO Jeff Wilpon would like to sell to the Rodriguez-Lopez Group, should their offer be close to the highest bid at the end of the auction.
