The NFL is facing a special preseason. The training camps are scheduled to start this month, but the players do not want to implement all corona protection measures yet.
The NFL’s off-season is gradually coming to an end, the egg should be flying soon. However, before the teams can start the training camps, there are some things to be clarified regarding the corona protection measures.
The league is currently in difficult negotiations with the players’ union (NFLPA). One of the issues is the obligation of the professionals to always wear protective visors on the face masks of the helmets on the pitch. Some players are still reluctant to do so. This is reported by “NBC Sports”.
The league has already clearly expressed its support. The NFLPA should now convince the players to wear the protection only during the camps, in order to then evaluate on the basis of experience how sensible it is to wear the special helmets for a longer period of time.
NFL and NFLPA: Hotel stays as another point of contention
Another point of contention also revolves around a commitment that the players are not yet willing to make. The league would like to see the players stay in hotels for the duration of the training camps.
The NFLPA, on the other hand, is pushing for hotel stays to be optional. Both during the training camps and during the season.
Should players voluntarily wish to isolate themselves from family members who belong to the Corona risk group, hotel accommodation would thus be provided. The same applies to rookies or newcomers who do not yet have a permanent residence in the new city.
So both sides will have to talk to each other and come to terms with each other – then hopefully nothing will stand in the way of the resumption of American football in the NFL.
