Next scandal at the Washington Commanders. Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio is facing heavy criticism after his controversial statements about storming the US Capitol last year.
Munich – Jack Del Rio, defensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, is currently facing a shitstorm.
Del Rio had called the storming of the Capitol on 6 January 2021 a “minor altercation”. Now he has backtracked in a statement on Twitter: “Comparing this situation to an altercation was irresponsible and negligent, for which I apologise. I condemn violence in all communities in this country.”
He added: “But I also say that as an American citizen, I support all peaceful protests. I have always supported all peaceful protests. “
Del Rio with bizarre comparison
Previously, Del Rio had drawn a comparison between the clashes following the death of George Floyd and the storming of the Capitol. “People’s neighbourhoods were destroyed, shops burned down, no problem. But then there’s a clash at the Capitol, nothing gets burned down, and we make a state issue out of that,” he told a media roundtable.

And further, “I think these are two different standards and if we want to have the same standards and be reasonable with each other, we have to talk about it. Let’s have a discussion.”
Several people were killed when thousands of people stormed the Capitol. Hearings on the incidents surrounding 6 January will start in the US later this week. Before that, there was a ten-month investigation.
