Colin Kaepernick last stood on the field as a quarterback in an NFL game on 1 January 2017. Still, he’s not giving up on his dream of a comeback
The patience is admirable. So is the unwavering optimism. And the passion even more so.
It has been more than six years since Colin Kaepernick last took the field as an NFL quarterback. A lot has happened since then. What has always remained: Kaepernick’s drive to make it back to the NFL. Despite the difficult history with anthem protests, booting out and numerous unsuccessful comeback attempts.
Colin Kaepernick: Numerous unsuccessful attempts
Because in the meantime he came to an agreement with the NFL, made a kind of truce with the league, but still did not find a new club.
In 2022, he posted workout videos, met with current receivers to get himself back in the conversation for free agency. In April, he showed off his throwing skills at halftime during the University of Michigan Spring Game.
It wasn’t enough for another chance. But as we all know, hope dies last.
On “CBS Sports”, the now 35-year-old now emphasised at the presentation of his new book “Colin Kaepernick: Change the Game” that he still does not rule out the possibility of a return. Timed to coincide with the start of this year’s Free Agency. For the dream, he continues to train as if he’s preparing for a new season.
Five, six days a week training
Five, six days a week. I still get up at 4:30am and go to training. Yes, the passion is still there and so is the ability.”
But the chance of a comeback might be vanishingly small after six years without real team training and match practice for it. That is precisely why Kaepernick’s patience, optimism and passion are so admirable.
