A six-part miniseries about Colin Kaepernick’s youth has been released on Netflix. One scene on the NFL Draft and camp is causing controversy.
Munich – Harsh criticism of Colin Kapernick!
The former NFL quarterback has resorted to a controversial analogy in his drama series “Colin in Black & White” on Netflix: Kaepernick compared the NFL Draft and training camps to slave auctions.
“They don’t want you to understand that there’s a power dynamic being built here,” Kaepernick, who made headlines in 2016 with his anthem protest against racism and police violence at the San Francisco 49ers and hasn’t landed a job in the NFL since the end of that season, said in the scene.
Six-part miniseries
The six-part Netflix series, released last Friday, is about Kaepernick’s youth, and how he became first a football star and then a symbolic figure in anti-racism protests. Kaepernick himself acts as narrator, played by Jaden Michael.
While the series received a lot of support on social media, “Kaep” also earned a lot of headwind for the slave comparison.

“Before they send you out on the field, teams poke around inside you looking for a flaw that could affect your performance. No respect for the boundary. No dignity left intact,” Kaepernick tells me as the scenery changes and football talent becomes shackled slaves.
“I supported Kaepernick when he knelt down and raised his voice against racism in America. But the minimum salary in the NFL is almost $700,000. That’s not slavery,” wrote one fan. Another added wryly: “That’s true. Most slaves also got guaranteed multi-million dollar contracts.”
To this was posted Kaepernick’s former NFL salary.
Criticism also from ex-NFL player
Criticism also came from Burgess Owens, the now politician played in the NFL from 1973 to 1982.
How dare @Kaepernick7 compare the evil endured by so many of our ancestors to a bunch of millionaires who CHOSE to play game. https://t.co/fy01QlVV2f
