Just days after returning from Concussion Protocol, quarterback Brock Purdy suffers another blow to the head. The NFL fails to respond, sending a fatal signal
Following the San Francisco 49ers’ loss in Week Seven’s Monday Night Game to the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Brock Purdy complained of concussion symptoms on the flight home.
During a fourth-quarter quarterback sneak, the 23-year-old had earlier taken a hard helmet-to-helmet hit from Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks.
Purdy subsequently landed in the league’s Concussion Protocol on Tuesday, but was cleared by an independent doctor to play again on Saturday.
Despite the all-clear, you would think Purdy would then be under special scrutiny in Sunday Night’s clash against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Even considering that the playmaker almost certainly had the shortest stay in the concussion protocol of any player this year due to the close time between the two games.
But how the NFL then acted in a critical action is highly negligent and sends a fatal signal.
Brock Purdy remains on the field despite being hit in the head again
Two minutes before the end of the game, there was another scare around the young quarterback.
Purdy threw a pass that was intercepted by Bengals safety Dax Hill. The 49ers got the egg back, however, as defensive tackle D. J. Reader was penalized for roughing the passer.
The fatal part of the scene was that San Francisco’s hopeful slammed his head to the ground with full force as a result of the tackle. After the impact, the youngster reflexively grabbed the side of his helmet with both hands while lying down, the scene was clearly caught by the TV cameras in the replays as well.
49ers QB Brock Purdy grabbed his head after it and his neck snapped back hard on this play late in Sunday’s loss to the Bengals.

With the backstory during the week, this should have necessarily ended the game early for last year’s “Mr. Irrelevant” – one would think.
However, there was no sign of any intervention by coaches or team doctors. Purdy remained on the field – as if nothing had happened – and was directly sacked on the following play, whereupon he lost the ball.
And that was not all! When the Bengals had to punt again a little later, the 49ers irresponsibly sent their playmaker down the field again for two pass attempts with the clock running out.
NFL has learned nothing from the farce surrounding Tua Tagovailoa
A scene that raises plenty of questions and once again doesn’t paint the NFL’s decision-makers in a good light on the explosive issue.
It is in the nature of things that a young, ambitious player in an adrenaline rush does not leave the field voluntarily.
However, it is inexplicable that the league does not keep a wary eye on one of its currently most promising talents after the worrying incident a few days earlier and withdraws him from circulation for his own protection at the slightest conspicuity.
The incident illustrates once again that despite the farce surrounding Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa from last season, who despite multiple head injuries and various stints in Concussion Protocol was completely bafflingly not removed from play, those responsible have continued to learn nothing.
Whether it’s Tua, Purdy, or whoever it might hit next: The NFL, through its ignorance, is not only gambling with the careers of its top stars!
