Belichick could turn his back on the NFL and become a lacrosse coach

Bill Belichick coaching lacrosse? Reportedly not a pipe dream. The NFL coaching legend might actually be considering a move from football to lacrosse.

Munich – Snap idea or serious intent? NFL coaching legend Bill Belichick is said to be toying with the idea of changing sports.

The New England Patriots head coach wants to go to lacrosse should he decide to leave the best football league in the world in the foreseeable future.

Speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast, Paul Rabil, the co-founder of the Premier Lacrosse League PLL, told of the 70-year-old’s actual thoughts and genuine interest. If, then a commitment would only be for the Waterdogs Lacrosse Club, he said.

Belichick would boost lacrosse popularity

“He just has a grip on a room,” Rabil referred to a training visit from Belichick, where he immediately gave energetic and precise instructions.

“He definitely has control of the room, he definitely likes lacrosse a lot, he definitely doesn’t need any more money. It would definitely be wonderful if Belichick traded football for lacrosse. That would definitely go a long way towards turning lacrosse from a quaint fringe sport to a mainstream sport in America.”

Belichick, Rabil continued, wouldn’t be coaching football, he would simply be coaching people: “He’s so good at it.”

The problem: right now, it doesn’t look like the spry coach is getting tired of the job after more than 20 years with the Patriots. Belichick will undoubtedly still be on the sidelines next season.

And, according to NBC Sports, Belichick may well seek a leadership role with an NFL team should he eventually end his coaching career.
