In the first leg between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers draws attention to himself with the chant “I still own you”. Now Bears tight end Jimmy Graham shows understanding.
Munich – It was one of the upsets in Week 6.
After his clinching touchdown, several Chicago Bears fans directed less than juvenile gestures in the direction of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers shouted “I still own you” in return. It was his 22nd win against the arch-rivals from the NFC North.
This weekend’s highly anticipated rematch will take place at Lambeau Field, and already Bears tight end Jimmy Graham has admitted to shouting similar statements at opposing teams after scoring touchdowns.
“I’ve said that to almost every organisation I’ve scored against,” Graham said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “I’ve said it to everybody.” In his 12-year NFL career, two of which he also spent in Green Bay, the tight end has scored against every team except the Cincinnati Bengals.
Graham can understand line from Rodgers
Meanwhile, Graham doesn’t think his former quarterback’s comment could provide any extra incentive for the Bears to win. He says further motivation is not necessary anyway. Besides, according to him, he has already heard much worse comments on the field.
“My words have never been picked up by a microphone – for a good reason. I don’t want anyone to hear what I say out there. This is not golf. It’s a game about beating your opponent, there’s not a lot of niceties.” He continued, “That’s part of the game. I have to figure out how to talk to people because in real life you can’t talk to them like that.”
For the game against the Packers, the pass receiver has already issued a goal: “We just have to stop them.”
Aaron Rodgers is 22-5 against Chicago – including playoff games. It is the eighth most wins by an NFL quarterback against a single team.
