His refusal to be vaccinated against Corona may have cost Cam Newton his job with the Patriots. Now teams have a need at the quarterback position – and Newton apparently has had a vaccination.
Munich – Cam Newton is undoubtedly one of the most prominent free agents right now.
Although many a team could use more experience at the quarterback position, the former Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots passer hasn’t really been traded hot yet.
Yet the No. 1 pick of the 2011 draft has apparently even been accommodating to prospective buyers. According to information from the NFL Network, the three-time Pro Bowler has now been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Newton first quarantined and then released
The lack of protection against the potentially fatal disease was seen, at least by the public, as one reason Newton missed the final cut at New England. Officially, however, no player can be dismissed because of his vaccination status.
In the final preparation phase, “Super Cam” had been briefly quarantined, which had caused disgruntlement among head coach and general manager Bill Belichick. Nevertheless, pundits and fans were surprised when the chair was placed in front of him.
Interested teams were informed of vaccination status
The NFL Network now goes on to report that while there are no recent developments that would indicate a quick commitment. However, teams that have been in contact with the Newton camp in the first few weeks of the season have been told that he has had a vaccination.
The 32-year-old had stressed that he definitely did not want to say goodbye to the NFL in this way. With the Patriots in particular, he had not matched his form of the first few years, when Newton had led the Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2015 and had been voted NFL MVP.
From @gmfb Weekend: Sources tell me and @RapSheet teams have been told Cam Newton is now vaccinated. So the debate on whether that’s an impediment to his being back in the NFL is now moot. pic.twitter.com/SefERRGLfH
