After his doping ban, DeAndre Hopkins is calling for change. The wide receiver believes athletes are under constant threat of ingesting banned substances without knowledge.
The wide receiver was suspended by the league for using performance-enhancing drugs. The 30-year-old continues to deny wrongdoing, but will not appeal the NFL’s decision.
Speaking to reporters, “D-Hop” renewed his stand: “I never took any of that stuff. If you know what it is, it can be in shampoo, it can be in a lot of different things. Obviously the NFL is very black and white, so obviously I wish the rule wasn’t so black and white. But it is what it is.”
The wide receiver had been found to have 0.134 per cent ostarine in his blood. That level exceeded the limit by 0.034 per cent. Ostarine is similar to anabolic steroids in the way it works.
Bitter: Hopkins missing against some top teams
“It’s hard to know when something is contaminated in trace amounts unless you work in the manufacturing company,” Hopkins continued. “It’s hard to understand what you can eat, what you can do, if you don’t have control over how it’s made or what goes through an assembly line. You know what I mean? Of course I think the rules should be changed. But like I said, it will sort itself out, and I’ve never taken anything. I hardly take any vitamins. “
Specially bitter: in their first six games, the Cardinals face the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks. Only the Panthers and Seahawks should be seen as “easy opponents”.
Last season, Hopkins played only ten games due to a knee injury. In those he collected 572 receiving yards and eight touchdowns
