The NFL offseason starts with many changes and new signings by the teams. The German fullback Jakob Johnson has not yet been considered. But a new opportunity could arise.
With the start of free agency, many well-known players have already been signed and some have also left their home country for a new adventure.
With Jakob Johnson, there is also a German NFL player on the market.
After leaving the Las Vegas Raiders, the fullback is looking for a new team
14 out of 32 NFL teams play with a fullback
Traditionally, fullbacks have a hard time in the NFL. Many teams even play without a fullback, although they can be a game changer and running backs and quarterbacks can benefit greatly from them.
Currently 14 teams play with a FB. The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer one of them after the release of Johnson. The other 14 teams have all signed at least one FB so far, which makes the situation more difficult for the German.
Even though a spot could become available at any time should a team decide to terminate a contract with a FB. And then everything could happen very quickly
These are the current fullbacks in the league:
- Dallas Cowboys: Hunter Luepke
- Chicago Bears: Khari Blasingame
- Green Bay Packers: Henry Pearson
- Minnesota Vikings: C.J. Ham
- Atlanta Falcons: Tucker Fisk, Robert Burns
- New Orleans Saints: Zander Horvath
- San Francisco 49ers: Kyle Juszczyk
- Denver Broncos: Michael Burton
- Houston Texans: Troy Hairston, Andrew Beck
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Jack Colletto
- Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Ricard
- New York Jets: Nick Bawden
- Miami Dolphins: Alec Ingold
- Buffalo Bills: Reggie Gilliam
- New hope for Jakob Johnson
Although the situation may seem tricky, there is light at the end of the tunnel. As reported by “heavy.com” and “The Atheltic”, the trail for Johnson could lead to New York.
The local Giants have hired a new coach for the offensive line, Carmen Bricillo. The same Bricillo with whom Johnson worked very successfully in Las Vegas and New England. The position coach is said to think highly of Johnson, he allegedly sees many of the successful runs of former Raiders running back Josh Jacobs in connection with Johnson’s blocking work.

Small drop of bitterness: After the departure of Saquon Barkley, the New York Giants currently have no starting RB to block for. So it’s quite possible that this position will have to be addressed before Johnson could become a serious issue.
But quarterback Daniel Jones could also benefit from a good fullback. In 2021 alone, the Patriots scored 11 runs for 20 yards and three runs for 40 yards when Johnson was on the field.
