Tom Brady: Acquisition of shares in Las Vegas Raiders approved – “TB12” officially minority owner

Tom Brady had been planning to buy shares in the Raiders for about a year and a half. The NFL team owners have now officially approved the transaction.

The die is cast! “TB12” can now officially call himself a team owner.

NFL legend Tom Brady had already agreed with the Las Vegas Raiders in May 2023 to purchase shares in the franchise. Almost a year and a half later, after Brady had once again improved the offer, the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s request has now been officially approved by the NFL.

Super Bowl 2028: NFL owners set venue

As NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports, the 47-year-old was officially approved by the NFL owners as a minority owner of the Raiders. The owners made the decision on Tuesday at the league’s annual fall meeting.

With his official share of five percent – although the total share of Brady and a business partner is said to be as much as ten percent – the playing career of the long-standing face of the league is now officially over, Rapoport continues.

The league’s finance committee had previously reviewed the ex-athlete’s offer. At least 24 of the 32 owners had to agree to the deal.

As ESPN reported earlier, the committee would not have presented Brady’s offer to the team owners at all if it had not been approved in the vote. So it was apparently only a formality.

The finance committee had already unanimously approved Brady’s request. According to ESPN, it was virtually out of the question that the owners would go against the committee’s recommendation.

Tom Brady will thus acquire around ten percent of the Raiders shares from owner Mark Davis together with businessman Tom Wagner. “We’re excited to have Tom join the Raiders,” Davis told the broadcaster when the offer became known: “And it’s exciting because he’ll only be the third player in NFL history to be an owner.”

The other two are George Halas and Jerry Richardson.

Brady had already signed a ten-year contract with the US channel Fox before his last NFL season in 2022 and has been working there as an analyst since this season. Recently, there was a stir because as a TV expert and team owner, a conflict of interest is inevitable.

This means that now that Brady is officially a part-owner of a franchise, he is no longer allowed to publicly criticize referees, for example. According to ESPN, a document from the league to the clubs entitled “Brady – Broadcast Restrictions” was recently sent for this reason.
