Tennessee Titans: Derrick Henry makes case for better pay for running backs

Derrick Henry is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Now the Tennessee Titans star has spoken out about the anger surrounding the pay of his position mates.

Derrick Henry has commented to “ESPN” on the posse surrounding the pay of running backs in the NFL.

“It’s very difficult right now. We’re just trying to show that we’re just as valuable as any other position. We’re being used in commercials and everywhere. We just want our share,” the 29-year-old is quoted as saying.

In recent weeks, several position colleagues from the NFL have already expressed similar sentiments. The reason for this was the development around Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and Tony Pollard.

None of the three players, all of whom were franchise tagged, were able to come to an agreement with their team on a long-term contract.

Barkley signed a one-year deal worth up to $11 million with the New York Giants earlier this week. Cowboys star Pollard signed the franchise tender that will pay him $10.1 million.

Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, who recorded the most rushing yards in the NFL in 2022, did not accept the tag and is currently not participating in Las Vegas Raiders training camp.

Derrick Henry on paying other positions: “Want the same thing “

While other positions are getting better pay, many teams are forgoing giving running backs a high-paying, long-term contract. “We want the same thing. It seems like we’re productive, but when it comes to negotiations, it’s kind of used against us,” Henry makes clear.

In order to support each other, a meeting could be organised among the running backs in the future, Henry said. The Zoom Call, which was initiated by Austin Ekeler (Los Angeles Chargers) and served as an exchange between the players, is also likely to be repeated.
